The household calendar

Everyone in the house, on the same page.

One calendar for the whole household, whether that’s a partner, a couple of roommates or a family of five. The chores, the birthdays and the things that only come around twice a year are on it before anyone types a thing.

nobody had to make a shared google calendar. a miracle.

Already filled in

A calendar that already knows.

Most shared calendars start empty and stay exactly as good as the effort you keep pouring in. This one is a view of things the house already has: chores land on the day they’re due and birthdays show up in time to do something.

Both are invisible, both come around again, and neither is ever the most urgent thing today, yet both cost something with another person when they slip.

While you were out

    Who has got what

Know it’s handled without having to ask.

Every open job sits in one pool and anybody can take one. Once it’s claimed it has a name on it, and once it’s done it stays done, with the minutes it was worth. Most of the friction in a house comes from not knowing whether something is handled, and this answers that at a glance.

    The slow ones

The things that only come around twice a year.

Daily and weekly are easy. What gets lost is the filter nobody remembers, the gutters, and the car inspection somebody did once and can’t say when. Every three months, six or twelve, they come back on their own.

    Clean the gutters

Twice a year. Next in Apr.

    Setting it up

One person makes the house. Everyone else types a code.

    One person

Makes the household on an iPhone. Nothing to import, nothing to rebuild.

    A code

Everyone else joins with it, and from then on the house is shared.

    That’s all

Nobody has to manage it, and there’s no year of chores to type in first.

    Questions about the calendar

    Before you set it up.

    Does everyone need an iPhone?
Yes. Beatrice is on iPhone only, and one person builds it, so Android is not coming soon. If that changes it will say so on the questions page.
Do I have to type everything in?
Once. A chore, a birthday or a twice-a-year job goes in one time, where it lives, and the calendar shows it from there.
Does it work for roommates as well as a family?
Yes. A household is whoever lives there, a partner, a few roommates or a family, and it works the same way for each.
